Kernow Karate was set up over thirty years ago by Nicholas Walker and has grown to be the most successful Martial Arts Club in the UK. Nick is a High School Teacher and University Professor and he demands the same level of professionalism from his instructors that he expects from school teachers. He always hated the unfriendly atmosphere he encountered in other training systems and ensured his clubs were always welcoming places where everybody could have fun while they trained…Nick always said that if you weren’t made to feel welcome and part of the club when you first walked through the door then he was failing! It is too hard a sport to do if you can’t get a laugh out of it!
Nick is a serious scientist and the KK style is based on science, it is most unwise to tell Nick that a move or technique is done that way because it has always been done that way: KK is very modern and is constantly developing new techniques and methods of training. Nick always keeps up with the cutting edge of research into the Martial Arts/Self Defence field.
Everyone is welcome at Kernow Karate, young or old, fit or unfit. We have young fighters who have reached the World Team, indeed three World Champions train with us, but we also have people who have reached an age where they have trouble getting up off the floor!
Nick has always specialized in fitness and self-defence and considers all the spiritual side absolute nonsense, he maintains Karate is a scientific fighting sport not an art form!
All you need to join is to be a decent human being and have a sense of humour…that means you laugh at Nick’s jokes.
