Organised under the auspices of the British Astronomical Association and founded in 1973. The original event was a residential astronomy course held annually at Horncastle College and over the years has evolved into a weekend of astronomy.
In recent years Lincolnshire County Council removed the on site accommodation where up to 80 people could be accommodated during the event but despite this loss HAW continues with many long distance attendees opting for local B&B. The College venue is no longer available so the event was relocated to Twin Lakes Conference Centre for the 2015 event. From 2016 it will be held at Minting Village Hall, Minting.
There is a wide range of talks given by experts and advanced amateur astronomers covering many aspects of astronomy and space exploration.
If clear skies occur then observing of both the sun by day and the night sky takes place and attendees are encouraged to bring along their own equipment.
