Why Automatic?
Have you tried learning in a manual car and found you’re not looking at the road because you’re struggling with getting the gear changes and the clutch sorted? Are you concerned about stalling and rolling back on hills?

Do you just want to have an easier route to safe driving and only intend to own an automatic car when you pass your test? Especially in a city like Glasgow where an automatic car is a lot easier to use.

We have been teaching driving in Glasgow since 16 yrs and have taught pupils who have previously found manual cars difficult, lacking confidence in driving as a consequence. Recently a lot more drivers are choosing automatic over manual as our culture gradually moves away from manual cars.

A Lesson

We want to train you to be a safe driver and pass your driving test with ease. To help you achieve this a lesson begins with reflection on your previous lesson and setting learning goals for the current one. Your pupil record is updated throughout the lesson measuring your improvement and achievements.

At the end of your lesson you review your progress and see what you’ve achieved in relation to the goals set out at the beginning of the lesson. so you can think about what you’d like to achieve next lesson.

Reflecting on your achievements helps you focus on your learning. You become a safe driver more quickly. You have a share in controlling your learning so it runs at your pace and you understand the learning process a lot better.

What’s Different about an Automatic?

an automatic car does a lot of things for you which can get in the way of learning in a manual car.

You have no clutch pedal so your left foot needs to do nothing. Your right foot has the accelerator (go) and brake pedal (stop). All you have to do to make the car move is select D, for Drive, on the gear selector then the car moves forward when you release the brake pedal. Slowing down you simply brake until you stop and the car sorts everything out so there’s no stalling. To go backwards you select R, for reverse.

On hills most automatic cars don’t roll back you just keep your foot on the brake until you want to move then accelerate away. Anxious hill starts are a thing of the past.
