Gillan is a lovingly restored holiday cottage. A high, vaulted ceiling and painted beams give the main, open plan living area an airy, bright feel, and there are two bedrooms, both comfortably fitted out and painted in calm, natural shades.

I (the owner, Hannah) bought Gillan in 2014. Since then, my partner Simon and I have worked to lovingly transform it from a higgledy-piggledy, dated little pad into a much loved holiday home-from-home. Our ambition was always to create a laid-back, open plan living space, where no one is left out of the action, and those cooking can still enjoy a glass of wine and a chat with those reading a book, drawing, listening to the radio or just having a post-beach walk snooze.

Inspired by the natural colours and textures of Cornwall, we swapped mismatched, dark, swirly-pattered carpets for clean laminate flooring (perfect for just sweeping the sand off), and turned the two gaudy bedrooms into peaceful nests for resting and relaxing in. We whipped aged carpet tiles out of the bathroom and gave it a colourful new look. Keen to create a characterful, friendly feel, but with a rugged, easy-to-care-for edge, with sandy feet and muddy boots in mind, we hope you'll feel at ease and at home.

There's a small private garden to the front of the property, where you can sit out and eat your breakfast (if the weather's kind to you!) and a larger, communal garden shared between Gillan and the other cottages which look onto the yard, which looks out over fields, and had a larger picnic table.

There's parking on hardstanding to the front of the cottage and all bed linen and towels are provided for you.

The cottage is located on 'The Meneage', or 'land of the saints', a beautiful rural area of South West Cornwall, close to the villages including St Keverne - handy for local supplies, and home to the gorgeous Greenhouse Restaurant (all organic, locally-sourced produce, and rather special). It's around 3 miles from the beaches of Coverack - a breaktakingly located harbour town, with a dramatic peninsula to walk, and the most wonderful fish and chips. Other nearby villages include Helford, which is set extremely beautifully along the Helford River, and features the wonderful and welcoming Shipwrights Arms pub.

Helston is the nearest bigger town for things like a Tesco and Sainsbury.

This is excellent country for walking - pick up the Coastal Path why don't you? Or take a trip over farmland and fields, and it's within easy reach of well know Cornish landmarks including the artist haven of St Ives, St Michael's Mount and the harbour town of Mousehole.
