Formby Play Sports was born on an idea that a private leisure facility can offer great but affordable services to the local community of Formby and the regions across Sefton and Merseyside.

Owner Hugh McAuley, has an established background in both professional football and business and this is what drives his passion to develop his facility to help the participation of sport in the local area.

Opening to public hire within the centre is an FA chartered standard 11-a-side floodlight pitch, a brand new 5/6 a-side 3G Astroturf facility which is also fully floodlight, 7-a-side and 9-a-side grass football pitches, a full size rugby pitch, a bar and cafe.

Hughs’ vision for Formby Play Sports…..
“Sport recreation and leisure is a massive part of people’s lives, whether it be for the physical exercise, or the social side that comes with participation in sport. Both are of great importance. Quality of facilities and cost are many people’s barrier to participation and this is why I have decided to give back to my local area of Formby, by developing a high end leisure facility at affordable rates. Our pitches rival those all over Britain and yet they are one of the lowest priced venues in Merseyside”.

To start with, the facility will open its doors free of charge Monday – Friday from 2:30pm to 4:30pm to all the local schools in Formby.

Heading up the Formby Play Sports movement is sports science and coaching graduate Christian Bolton, who has several years’ experience developing sports and leisure management.

“I am really excited and looking forward to what is being developed by Hugh. I think that giving back to your local community is of great importance, and i think that what Hugh is offering to do for the area should be commended. There are not many people in this world that would invest so much and ask for so little back, I hope that the local area embrace this great new inventive idea.”

Formby Play Sports will be working alongside amateur and junior football clubs to help develop grassroots football within the local areas.
