The Global Insecurities Centre is host to a major Horizon 2020 research programme on Preventing and Responding to Conflict: Developing Civilian Capabilities for a Sustainable Peace (EU-CIVCAP). The three-year €1,714,976 EU-CIVCAP project will provide a comprehensive, comparative and multidisciplinary analysis of the EU's current conflict prevention and peacebuilding activities.

EU-CIVCAP is led out of the Global Insecurities Centre (GIC) in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies (SPAIS) at the University of Bristol, by the principle investigator, Dr Ana Juncos Garcia. Dr Ryerson Christie and Professor Tim Edmunds, also of the GIC, are co-investigators. The GIC leads a consortium of 10 institutions across eight different countries in Europe. These include the University of Maastricht (Netherlands), Roskilde University (Denmark), Aberdeen University (UK), the Istituto Affari Internazionali (Italy), the Centre for European Policy Studies (Belgium), the EU Satellite Centre (Spain), the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (Belgium), Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (Serbia) and Transparency Solutions (UK).

The project began in December 2015.

Funders

EU-CIVCAP is funded as part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
