In 2015, later in life and now with a bit more recreational time on my hands, I decided to combine my love of art, craft, needlework, tapestry, photography and information technology and create bespoke embroidered design artwork.

I have evolved from generations of needlework enthusiasts. I progressed from the age of eight, making dolls clothes by hand, out of curtain material scraps at my mum’s feet whilst she worked on her old singer sewing machine, to making my own clothes and even my own wedding dress at the age of 20. Always keen to learn, I managed to learn the arts of tapestry; knitting; crochet; tatting; electronic machine knitting and tailoring to name but a few.

My work originates from photographs which I deconstruct and manipulate to recreate a living, communicative artwork. Unlike the original photograph which is ‘flat’, I bring them to life by creating additional dimensions, such as colour, reflective light, shadows, volume, form and texture. Not dissimilar to techniques used in the art of oil painting and should be viewed in a similar manner.

My creations so far, have all been fashioned on things I love the best, family, friends, pets, and hobbies. Recently, I have started remembering to take my camera with me on trips and walks. It’s amazing how fascinating simple things such as blades of grass can look when they are photographed and reincarnated! And, although very early days, I have already completed a few commissions!

I hope, now is my time, to share my love of art with others around who can hopefully enjoy and appreciate my designs as much as I do.
