Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids' Clubs exists to help communities in Wales by promoting, developing and supporting quality, affordable, accessible out of school childcare clubs.

We are a Wales wide organisation that helps set up, develop and support out of school childcare clubs. We help clubs or prospective clubs to apply for funding and we train and support club staff during the set up and subsequent running of the club.

What is an Out of School Club?
An out of school club is a club that runs either side of the school day and often during school holidays. Clubs enable parents or carers to return to work, education or training by providing childcare until the end of the working day.

Many schools have out of school clubs on their premises, whilst other clubs run from village halls and community centres.

After School Club.
An after school club begins as the school day finishes, usually at about 3:30pm. If the club is not held in the school building, the children are met and escorted to the club by club staff members. Once at the club the children are registered and given a snack and drink. They can then take part in a varied programme of games and activities until a parent or carer arrives to collect them. The clubs are usually open until 6pm enabling parents to finish work and collect them in plenty of time.

Before School Club.
A before school or breakfast club is run before the school day begins. Parents can drop their children off before they go to work and the children will be offered a snack and looked after until the school day begins. Again, if the club is not held in a school, the club staff will ensure that children reach the school safely and in good time.

Holiday Clubs.
Holiday Clubs run in the daytime during the school holidays in order to ensure that children are well cared for whilst their parents are at work. Children will be kept busy with fun, games and activities and will be offered food during the day.

How much will it cost?
Out of School Childcare Clubs are the ideal solution if you wish to return to work, training or education. Although kept to a minimum, charges must be made in order to cover the costs of running the club. Costs will vary from club to club and it is advised that you contact the club or your local regional office for more information.

You may be eligible to claim Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, which will give you tax relief in order help pay towards the cost of childcare. For further information please contact your local regional office, or alternatively you can contact the Inland Revenue who will be able to provide you with advice and the forms required in order for you to claim your tax credit. You can contact the Inland Revenue by phoning 0845 300 3900, on the internet at www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk, or by post: The Inland Revenue, PO Box 1222, Liverpool. L75 2ED.

How can I set up a club in my community?
If you are considering setting up an Out of School Club in your community, you should first contact your local Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids' Clubs Development Officer. Each county in Wales has a Development Officer and a Support Worker who will help and support you during the set up and running of your club. They will help you discover if there is a need for an Out of School Club in your area, how to find accommodation for your club, finding financial assistance, meeting legal requirements etc. To find out who your local Development Officer is, contact your local regional Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids Clubs office or the National Office.
