Canine First Aid South West covers Devon, Cornwall, and surrounding areas by arrangement.

Practice CPR on a manikin and bandaging techniques on real dogs. First Aid scenarios are covered, as well as learning health checking techniques.

I run these courses for Dog Grooming Schools, Canine Creches, Dog Walkers, Dog Trainers and members of the public. The course is suitable for all canine business professionals.

Unfortunately as yet, there is no officially accredited Canine First Aid course available in the UK. Personally I would like to see one certified by City and Guilds or the RCVS. I have seen courses offered that mention 'Level 2/3' but on investigation I can only assume that the provider is suggesting they are on the same educational level as City and Guilds Level 2/3 as they are definitely not certified by them. I have also noticed that some courses are run by human health professionals with very little animal knowledge and certainly not the first line animal emergency experience that I have. Other courses are classroom based with little or no practical activities and CPR is learned from a video. By the end of the course you will be able to demonstrate CPR on a manikin, be able to apply a bandage correctly and be able to answer a few First Aid questions in order to receive your certificate. The reason for this is to prove learning and so that if you do have a real life emergency you'll be able to implement what you learned and not just have vague memories of a classroom.

Pictures of the certificates can be seen on the photos section on this page.

Individual students or small groups can be catered for at my own premises just ten minutes outside of Exeter, or travel to surrounding areas when requested.
