What is Called to Lead?

Called to Lead is the name given to a partnership of churches who are intentional in working together for gospel centred mission, and developing leaders within that context. The program is made up of two main elements; academic study and leadership formation.

Where is it based?

Our first Called to Lead partnership is based in Exmouth, Devon. Exmouth is a stunning town on the south coast, with unrivalled beaches. Most importantly, it is a large town with the biggest school in the UK, and so represents a great missional opportunity. Other partnerships in different locations are currently in development.

Where will I study?

Exmouth is a hub for ForMission College and is part of the Bath campus. In practice this means that all students attend facilitations and lectures in Bath on one day per week, whilst spending the rest of their time in Exmouth.

What will I do for the remainder of the week?

Students complete 13 hours per week placement in their home church (in Exmouth), in an area or discipline that they feel called to. Currently our students are engaging in placements that range from worship, evangelism, teaching, social action, youth work and childrens work. Our aim is to design a placement around the things that you feel passionate about and called to.

What is ForMission and what is the BA Hons Missional Theology?

ForMission College (formally known as Springdale) is one of the largest Bible Colleges in the UK, with a rich heritage in delivering mission centred, practical teaching that equips Christian leaders to transform their communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The BA Hons Missional Theology is a three year, full-time degree, validated by University of York St John.

How much does it cost?

Currently the BA Hons Missional Theology costs £5950 per year. These costs are usually met by student finance, as most people who apply to Called to Lead are eligible for normal student financing facilities.

What will I be able to do upon completion?

Upon completion of Called to Lead, students are awarded their degree and a portfolio that evidences their practical work. Many students go on to full-time ministry roles or humanitarian work. Others go on to study at post graduate level in a variety of disciplines from Theology, Social Work or Teaching.
