Bosom Buddies is a unique home and hospital bra fitting service, dedicated totally to ensuring the comfort of nursing and expectant mothers. It was founded in 1993 by our highly experienced nursing bra fitter Jo Dunn, and has been helping mums all over Glasgow, Lanarkshire Ayrshire and beyond to have a better pregnancy and breast feeding experience,by taking the stress out of bra shopping at a time when many mums simply cannot face high street shops and feel at their most vulnerable. The service is widely recommended by all of the Glasgow/Paisley maternity units, where Jo visits the mums- to- be at their breast feeding workshops to offer advice and give them the opportunity to organise their fitting in preparation for birth. Most mums have their bras fitted at home where they feel comfortable and have total privacy, before they have their babies, but Jo is there to rescue the ones who end up in hospital early, deliver unexpectedly at home or have simply bought the wrong size or the wrong type of bra for their needs prior to birth.
Jo is present at the Breastfeeding Workshops held in the Southern General,Victoria Infirmary,Princess Royal Maternity,Royal Alexandra in Paisley and Rutherglen Maternity Care Centre,at the invitation of the midwives, who recognise the need for this service, and she is now on her second generation of nursing mothers, who continue to appreciate her expertise. Bosom Buddies use Emma Jane bras, a well respected name in nursing underwear, who have 30 years experience in the field of nursing rather than fashion garments, using fabrics and styles that are correct for nursing and help to minimise the risk of breastfeeding issues such as thrush and mastitis.
The hospital service is well used by mums with babies in special care or who are in for a longer period and need urgent attention and the home service is in constant demand,as many mums are referred by the community midwifery teams after birth, should they need a fitting as quickly as possible.
Our commitment at Bosom Buddies is to help nursing mums as quickly as we can,and many mums have said that had the service not been available they would have considered giving up breastfeeding.
