Border Embroideries was founded in 1989 by Billy and Shirley-Anne Smillie and has grown from that point into what is easily the UK's leading specialist school uniform, work, sports & leisure clothing embroidery service.

Starting with a single head embroidery machine in 1989, there are now multi and single head machines in the factory with a total of 100 embroidery heads.

With over 10,000 logos on file, Border Embroideries has established itself as an experienced business that can cater for any types and sizes of orders for any type of use.

In 2000 Border Embroideries moved into its purpose built factory located in Greenlaw and this factory was extended again in 2006 as demand for floor space grew. The Factory again doubling in size with the addition of a 360 sq/metre warehouse in 2012 and 2015. The diversification into shops in 2005 also added to Border Embroideries movement forward. Retail units are now present in Ayr, Dundee, Glasgow, Falkirk, Wishaw and Kirkcaldy, giving Border Embroideries up to 120 staff during peak months.

In 2006 Billy and Shirley-Anne's daughter Aynsley left school to come to work at Border Embroideries and has worked her way up to the office - you will now find her answering your enquiries. She was soon followed by their son William who traded a place at Edinburgh University to work in the family business, overseeing shop operations and also being a trained digitiser.

Ross, their other son, finally left school in 2011 to take a role in the marketing side of things, making it very much a family orientated business, who care about core values, placing customer service & satisfaction at the top of the list.

In 2015 the company re-branded to have 3 specialist sub divisions, BE Schoolwear, BE Teamwear and BE Workwear.
