What is Pilates? ‘A thinking way of moving’

I left university with a degree in Law & Politics and whilst temping in Edinburgh, I was offered a job at Saatchi & Saatchi. After 8 years of post-graduate studying and working in Marketing, still on the Agency side, the birth of our first son meant I needed a career change so I pursued my personal passion – fitness.

Whilst in that stressful managerial role I often used to disappear at lunchtimes for a quick de-stress ‘fix’ from my local fitness centre.

To coin a phrase ‘I have never looked back’. I originally studied over 12 years ago, with Michael King at ‘The Pilates Institute’ in London and have been back for further updates throughout my Pilates career.

I am also qualified to teach a wide variety of classes – aqua aerobics, studio aerobics, toning classes, Body Pump, Pilates, step and spin, as well as core strengthening on stability balls.

After the birth, in quick succession of two more babies, I decided to focus mainly on teaching Pilates, although I supplement this with running (badly) as part of my overall fitness.

Pilates

A good healthy mix of fitness disciplines is required for an overall fitness.

I enjoy teaching Pilates, it compliments everything I do. It offers me a calming yet intensive mix of strength and precision, in a relaxing atmosphere which I love offering clients.

Pilates offers the customer an intensive lower abdominal and back core-strengthening package. Originally designed to help rehabilitating athletes and dancers, Pilates works for the extremely aerobically fit as well as those who are less so, and for those who are suffering from back discomfort.

Continuous studying and research is required to maintain an up to date, effective teaching standard. I attend regular annual Fitness Convention at Loughborough University plus updating my original Pilates qualification at The Pilates Institute and with other Pilates providers.
