I can't say for sure at which point in time the idea of Rangoli Health was born. As rangoli designs in India are ever expanding and weaving together intricate patterns, so has my journey of health and natural beauty been.
I grew up on a farm in South Africa. With my botanist father and mother running a nursery, I have always been surrounded by plants, mostly indigenous. Often I would stroll through the nursery with my mother while telling me the uses of certain plants, rubbing a leaf between her fingers and passionately says: "Oh, just smell this one". Then we could stop at her favorite tree to feel its rough bark. As a child she's put a few drops of Bloekom (Eucalyptus) oil on my pillow to clear my blocked nose. My mother is a beautiful, strong and wise woman and has been one of the greatest mentors in my life. My father is like an old, strong tree, filled with endless wisdom of nature.
I never saw my mother buying one jar of face cream or face wash in her life. She made toner with witch hazel and rosewater and added some eu' de cologne in the winter. I guess this is where it all started…
In 1994 I moved to Taiwan. During the initial years of my time in Asia I moved away from the simplicity and rustic nature of the farm life I was used to. As time passed, I became interested in the local methods of healing, health and longevity. I became more aware of how we pollute our bodies and the environment. I did various courses in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Thai massage, Ayurveda lifestyle counseling and colon hydrotherapy. Although I didn't know it at the time, I was slowly moving back to what was familiar to me all along. I felt a renewed motivation to once again seek out simple and natural ingredients and recipes. I reclaimed control over the skin care products I put on my body. I’ve come full circle...These many threads of therapies, discoveries and back-to-basic lifestyle ideas resulted in the creation of Rangoli Health. I hope to assist you in weaving your personal rangoli pattern of natural living.
