The National Wu-Ling Senior High School is a secondary school in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Currently, WLSH is the high school with the highest entrance grade in Taoyuan City: only the top 1% of scorers on the Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students receive admission. Junior high school graduates must score 3A++, 2A+ or above in the CAP test to be enrolled. A large portion of graduates go on to attend prestigious universities locally and worldwide.National Wu-ling Senior high school has held a student yearly exchange programme with Ozenne High School, Toulouse, France since 2009.HistoryThe school was established by JenChiou Pan, the president of National Chenggong High School in February 1955. At that time it was named National Chenggong High School Chiedung River Department. In 1959, the school became independent and was named Provincial Wu-Ling High School. In 1970, the junior high school department (grade 7 to 9) went independent, the remaining senior high school department (grade 9 to 12) was renamed Provincial Wu-Ling Senior High School.In 2007, the school participated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs English contest, and in 2013 a student from the school won the International Physics Olympiad.EtymologyThere has been various sources and guesses of how the high school got its name, including the hypothesis showing below Pun Theory:The name 'Wuling' retrieved from its former name "Wuliang", an abbreviation for United Department of the Five Provincial High Schools in Taipei . The Peach Colony Theory: The municipal city which Wuling sits, the Taoyuan City, is Some local historians suggests that the name of the high school came from ancient Chinese writer Tao Yuanming's famous paragraph, The Peach Colony. Pre-existed Name Theory: After conducted an interview with the first principal Bu Guangdong, formal Art teacher Jiang Changming claims that the name "Wuling" come from Wuling Neighborhood, which is also in Taoyuan City. However, some historians do not approve this theory because Wuling High School is far from Wuling Neighborhood.
