Nangang Bottle Cap Factory, formerly known as "Domestic Cork Kogyo Co.," was a private factory established during the Japanese occupation. After the Retrocession, Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau took over (ie, currently Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation, TTL) and renamed it "Cork Factory," which was one of the factories producing tinplate bottle caps, mainly supplying all kinds of wine packaging for the Monopoly Bureau. In 1958, its name was once again changed into "Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau Bottle Cap Factory," later to become known as Nangang Bottle Cap Factory.

In 2004, Bottle Cap Factory was officially closed and the plant was emptied. After years of dereliction, the factory's structure still remains fairly intact. Its roof tiles, high ceilings, complete continuous space, the proportioned beam structure of the roof, the plants grown inside and outside the buildings, and the amazing graffiti painted by distinguished street artists on the peeling walls, make the factory space reveal its unique charm after the accumulation of time.

From 2010 onwards, Urban Renewal Bureau launched the project of "Taipei City Urban Regeneration Station; URS), providing old unused space to plant seeds of creativity and imagination, trying to find a way to make the past and future coexist and discover unique local culture and confidence, turning it into a haven for urban dwellers and actually also a nursery for art and literary creations.

In recent years, the venue has hosted many large-scale exhibitions, music festivals, group night strolls and numerous shootings of images and films. It can be regarded as the studio for film making located in the ruins in Taipei City. Taipei Film Commission, Taipei Digital Art Center and Just One Fix, etc..were stationed at the venue.

But soon at the rear of the plant, a huge white monster has been gradually completed. Its demolition was expected in the end of August 2013 but we have prolonged it several times but only some factory buildings will be preserved. Presumably it will be used for construction of more shopping malls or office buildings, roads, or even simply used as a parking lot, to raise local housing prices, and then one of the most important base for creative arts will be lost.

We have prevented its fate of being removed after efforts since June 2013. But we need more help to preserve the whole area, to open it, to revive it, to make more miracles happen.
