Sincap Projesi "Medical help for refugee children in Turkey" 2.61

About us
Until today (Dec 2015) there are approximate 500.000 to 600.000 refugees, mainly from Syria stranded in Istanbul. Half of them are children under the age of 18 years.

The SINCAP PROJESI is a private initiative, taken under the umbrella of Medikal Arama ve Kurtarma Derneği ME(Medical Rescue Association). Our aim is to help war injured and traumatized children to receive immediate medical help. We start where the public Turkish health systems ends. We have set up workflows and a clear structure. Our team is working professional and effective.

How we work:
Volunteers (mainly medical students) arrange doctor visits with the children and check their insurance level by the public Turkish health system.
Within a pool of supporting doctors and specialists the volunteers arrange checks in order to assess the best way of treatment and healing.
We organize surgeries if necessary or therapies. If amputees need a proteases we organize this as well.

Why we do this:
Children are the most vulnerable victims of the war. Psychological they are affected. Bullets and explosions have taken their hands, arms or legs while they where playing on the street. If we see these children in Istanbul there is only one imperative: to help and not to close the eyes!

What we plan in the future:
The SINCAP PROJESI is aiming to help up to hundred children in 2016 – if possible more. For the families which intent to stay in Turkey we will develop further rehabilitation and integration programs in the future.

About MEDAK (Medical Rescue Assoc. of Turkey):
MEDAK is a NGO, founded in 2013 and made up of mostly medical personnel and medical students. The main aim of the NGO is to train and prepare medical and non-medical volunteers to work as "medical rescue personnel" in a disaster(earthquake, floods, people on the move...). MEDAK also works with vulnerable groups in non-urgent contexts: Mainly with Migrant Farm Workers, Syrian Refugees, Nepalese in remote areas and people without access to medical attention.
