The aim of this facebook page is not only to promote our beautiful apartment and our home from home but to share the knowledge I have acquired over the many years of this beautiful corner of Turkey.

I will add photos and captions of everything from historical sites, beautiful sunsets, local cuisine, beaches, scenery, restaurants, shopping etc.

The Didim/Altinkum area is place for everyone to enjoy what ever your interests. And it is a great base to explore the south west coastal region of Turkey and further afield.

Our apartment is on the Blue Hill Complex in Didim/Altinkum. The complex is at the highest point in Didim giving you breathtaking views of Didim/Altinkum and Mavisehir.

Apartment:

Our apartment is G5 on the second floor.

This is a Luxury 2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom Apartment. A double bed in the main bedroom and en-suite bathroom. A twin room with 2 single bedroom. Open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. There is a dining table with 6 chairs The lounge area has a corner suite which opens up to form a very comfortable double bed. There is a LCD TV and DVD player with a collection of DVDs for you to enjoy and cable tv with a few english channels.

There are 2 Balconies. 1 facing the pool with plastic chairs and table for alfresco dining and the rear on facing the sea and countryside.

All bedding, linen and towels are provided. We only request you do not take these towels to pool area or to the beach. Bring your own beach towels

The Kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, kettle, toaster, fruit juice, microwave, washing machine and a very large fridge freezer. Pots, Pans, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery is all provided.

We feel you wont be using the kitchen facilities much as there are many restaurants in the area providing quality tasty meals at budget prices.

All the rooms are air-conditioned.

There is also free WIFI for guests to use.

The complex is set in landscaped gardens surrounded bu a stunning sapphire swimming pool, with plenty of sunbeds It also benefits from a small gym, gamesroom and sauna. All free for guests to enjoy.

The Area:

Didim has an population of 85,000 and during the summer months this exceeds 200,000 due to turkish holidaymakers from big cities such as Ankara, Istanbul and others. And majority tourists visting from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, some Germans, Belgians, Dutch and Scandanavians,

It is also has an all year round British expat community numbering a couple of 1
thousand and many more second home owners visiting through out the year.

Altinkum means Golden Sands in Turkish is the beachfront area of Didim, describing the many golden sand beaches found in the area. The beaches are sandy bottom with gently shelving shallow waters ideal for children and non swimmers and swimmers alike.

Didim is also home to the ancient 3000 year old Temple of Apollo home to the famous Oracle. This temple was second only to the one in Delphi Greece in importance in the Ancient times.

This is a huge impressive structure never fully completed. Some say if it had been completed it would have been the 8th wonder of the Ancient World. This temple is only 10 minutes walkaway from our apartment. There are a few very nice restaurants overlooking this ancient monument.

Beaches:

Altinkum has 3 main beaches named 1st beach 2nd beach and 3rd beach all with sandy shallow seas and watersports. There are also may little hidden beaches and coves ready to be discovered.

Things to do:

Apart from relaxing on the beach and watersports. Shopping at markets, aqua park, visiting historical monuments there is so much to do in the area and further afield.

Shopping: There is a Saturday Market near the mosque in Didim. And also the summer nightly market in Mavisehir only 10 minutes bus drive away. You can buy fresh fruit and veg, freshhly caught fish, freshly pressed olive oils and good quality fake designer clothes and handbags. Just haggle it is expected.

Mavisehir is the best place in Turkey to view vibrant sunsets over the Greek Aegean Islands just off the coast. There also many restaurants there with quality tasty local cuisine at value for money. Get there before sunset to see these natural event unfold before your eyes and enjoy your meal on the waterfront. Afterwards finish you visit wondering the huge covered night market which closes in the early hours of the morning.

The Didim Aqua Park is also near Mavisehir and there is also a Go Karting track nearby.

Restaurants: We are fortunate to have one of the best new restaurants open its doors in 2015 directly opposite Blue Hill Complex called Mavi Kitchen Bar and Restaurant.

This part of Altinkum/Didim is fast becoming the most desired area and there are new bars and restaurants opening all the time. There is also the Meandros Garden Restaurant only 10 minutes walkaway. And within 15-20 minutes walk from our apartment there are many bars and restaurants.

Most restaurants do a free pick up and drop off car service from the apartment. Ideal way to go and eat in hustle and bustle of Altinkum.

There are many bars and restaurants doing entertainment in Altinkum and dolphin square area.

There are a few nightclubs on altinkum seafront for those who like to dance through the early hours of the morning.

Further afield:

Ancient Miletus with its magnificent roman amphitheatre is only 20 minutes drive away. Priene another ancient city is only 30 minutes drive away as is the old greek village of Doganbey and Karina Fishing Village where you can have fish meal on stilts.

The best preserved Ancient city of Ephesus is 50 minutes away. And the natural wonder and UNESCO world heritage sight Pammukale with its thermal healing springs is 2 hour 30 minutes away.

Third largest city in Turkey the cosmopolitan is only 1 hour 30 minutes away and the St Tropez of Turkey Bodrum Town is only 1hour 20 minutes away.
