Kon-Tiki Thailand 4.25

Established in 1989 in Phuket, Kon-Tiki Thailand Diving & Snorkeling Center is one of the longest running dive centers in Thailand. Today you can find branches in Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi and Koh Lanta, where they run diving and snorkeling tours every day of the week. Kontiki’s dive centres cover all the dive sites from Hin Daeng/Hin Muang in the south, to Similan Islands and Burma Banks in the north. Kon-Tiki Thailand operates 7 dive and snorkeling boats and several speedboats here at the west coast of Thailand. As an international dive center, they have scuba divers and snorkelers visiting from all over the world, many of they coming back year after year. Kon-Tiki is an ambitious diving and snorkeling center where involvement is the key theme. That means, that we try to get both our customers, as well as our staff and as many people as possible that we come in contact with, involved in growing our key values: CARE – KNOWLEDGE – SAFETY.

Care:

Since we live to show people the wonders of our seas, we feel that it is crucial that we take responsibility for how we interact with that environment.

This includes minimizing wear and tear of these fragile environments, but also educating ourselves and our customers, about how we can be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem. This has led to a number of initiatives so far, and you can read more about some of them under the “Environment” menu. The value of caring is also relevant in all interrelationships between staff, customers and people we interact with. It is a basis from which we try to operate at all times.

Our dedication and work towards protecting our nature, has resulted in a number of awards. In 2008, PADI and Project AWARE awarded Kon-Tiki Thailand with the prestigious ” PADI/Project AWARE Marine Environmental Award” and in 2009 we were among the three finalist 2009. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, Project AWARE has awarded Kon-Tiki Thailand with the “Project AWARE Environmental Award”. We are the only dive center in the world who has been awarded 4 years in a row.

Knowledge:

Knowledge holds a special place amongst our key values. The reason is evident. To be successful in our efforts driven by our other values, knowledge must come first. Otherwise we would end up in a “blind leading the blind” situation.

One way of promoting knowledge amongst staff has been to create a “knowledge forum”. Here all staff meets to discuss which areas to focus on, in terms of learning, and then tasks for research etc. are delegated between us.

Then we hold in-depth presentations for each other in different areas, where we want to increase our knowledge. The really fun part is, to then share this knowledge with our customers, and this is done on a daily basis on every trip conducted by the Kon-Tiki Thailand team. This has led to the FREE Underwater Naturalist program, that is open to all, who go diving with us, as well as our promise, that our customers learn something new on EVERY SINGLE Kon-Tiki trip!

Safety:

Scuba diving as well as snorkeling, has a very impressive safety record and is considered safe providing safety recommendations are followed.

Kon-Tiki Thailand never the less, felt that any company who take people on a boat, work with people and educate new divers, need to convey a message of how such activities can be conducted, in a way that’s safe for customers at all levels of training and experience.

This way we can all focus on what this is all about; exploring an amazing new world, learning more about our planet and having a great time together, without injury. The is no doubt. Safety is our primary concern.
