OUR STORY

The Original Katong Laksa was started by our founder, Mr Ng Juat Swee, popularly known as Janggut. (Janggut means beard in Malay, where he had hair growing out from his mole below his chin.)

Back in the 40s', he was selling his laksa carrying his pole with metal buckets over his shoulders around the Marine Parade beach area. Being a street hawker and for the convenience of his customers, the noodles were cut short and eaten with a spoon which became a trade mark of our Katong Laksa.

In the early 50s' with his younger brother Mr Ng Chwee Seng, they sold laksa on a tricycle around the streets where they lived at Marshall Road and in front of the bungalow by Marine Parade beach.

Our first stall was born in the late 50s' at 49 East Coast Road which was well known as Katong Laksa for its location. Due to rental hike, we have been relocating in Katong and our stall in Roxy Square was later settled down in 2000 and another branch at Queensway Shopping Centre was open in 2005.

We are glad to welcome you to our Upper Paya Lebar branch to taste the authentic ORIGINAL KATONG LAKSA, JANGGUT LAKSA
