TEKKA MARKET THROUGHOUT THE WEEK:

• MONDAY - THURSDAY
The wet market serves mostly local residents with fresh fruit, vegetables and meat products as well as a drool-worthy selection of made-to-order Indian cuisine. Although the wet market starts to wind down by late afternoon on weekdays, food stalls remain open and bustling till late.

• FRIDAY is the busiest weekday, as the local population begin their weekend merry-making with good food and drink. After 6pm, queues get long and tables get filled. Be patient. Good things come to those who wait.

• SATURDAY is when the wet market is buzzing from early morning, especially in fine weather. If you are planning a family feast over the weekend, come as early as 6:30am to snap up crisp greens and tender mutton. The wet market stays full and active throughout the day. Before you leave, have a frothy cup of teh tarik and a deep-fried, golden vadai to-go.

• SUNDAY is the busiest day by far, as it's the migrant population's only day off. Streets are jam-packed and the vibe is off the charts. Dress comfortably as the crowd, heat and humidity can take its toll. Reprieve arrives after sunset as most revellers return home to prepare for the week ahead.
