Shinyuu Kai Karate was founded in December 2015 by the principle instructors, also well-known as “Singapore’s Karate Couple”, Shihan Robert Tan and Sensei Cindy Seah.

The husband and wife team have been dominating the 1st place podium finishes as the National Champion for both the Kumite (sparring) and Kata (pattern) categories in the last few decades. Shihan Robert Tan (7th Dan) has been a keen practitioner of karate for the last 40 years and have won numerous national accolades for his martial arts prowess, notably representing Singapore at the 7th World Union of Karate-Do Championship [WUKO] at Maastrich, Holland in 1984, clinching a respectable 8th placing out of over 30 international champions for his weight category. Shihan Robert Tan has also been coaching and helping to raise the profile of the local karate scene since 1980, as he has coached and produced many karate players who have represented Singapore in the national squad.

Sensei Cindy Seah (6th Dan) is a well-respected female karate practitioner who has similarly proved her prowess, being part of the National Squad that took home a silver medal in the 17th SEA games held in Singapore and a bronze medal in the 16th SEA games held in Manila. Sensei Cindy has a passion for teaching, especially for children and female karate practitioners, as she is well-loved by many of her students, as parents and teachers alike entrust their charges to her good care.

Shihan Robert Tan and Sensei Cindy Seah has been training for the last 40 years with the Shitoryu Karate Association of Singapore (SKA). Together with the early pioneers of Karate-do, they were a part of a key group of instructors who helped to coach and build up the young karate talents in Singapore. It has also been the wish of both instructors to one day, branch out of their own and further grow a group of dedicated karate practitioner, bonded by their love of for this martials arts and friendship towards one another.
