Break a pencil. See its simplicity – graphite encased in wood – but know its complexity. The perfect pencil writes consistently and smoothly – soft enough to leave its mark, yet strong enough to not break. From the rudimentary lead stylus of centuries before to the utilitarian tool we now know, the story of the pencil tells of the nature of design and technology, and the winds of circumstance.

The very familiar and seemingly simple object that is the pencil is our guide, and drives our ethos. We mirror its simple form and indispensable functionality in our desire to offer and oversee design services, art direction and education initiatives with the mutual assistance of clients, collaborators and compassionate patrons. The relentless spirit of invention and opportunity – such as Nicolas-Jacques Conte’s work in refining pencil lead – drives the value that we place on research and development. Our think-tank taps on emerging talents and animated minds, enlivening our selves while contributing back to the community.

Personalities like Konrad Gesner, Henry David Thoreau, the Faber family, the Staedtler family and Joseph Dixon who had a hand in perfecting the pencil inspire us as an entity. But we would not be complete without compassion, criticality, creativity, charity and consciousness.

Only then we can say that we have become fine, sharp and good in every aspect.
