The People Association’s Neighbourhood Committees (NCs) aim to encourage active participation and build stronger community bonds within private housing estates. Formed in June 1998, NCs also work with various government agencies to improve the social and physical landscape in such estates.

NCs strive to:

• Promote neighbourliness and harmony within the estates through various activities
• Allow residents to socialise and get to know each other better
• Nurture close-knit neighbourhoods where residents form bonds and engage in activities together
• Communicate residents’ needs and their thoughts on government policies to relevant government bodies
With Singapore’s changing demographics, NCs play an important role in bringing together the neighbourhood. NCs have progressed steadily over the years, from just 11 when the scheme was first launched to over 130 NCs today. Volunteers are the backbone of every NC and their contributions are vital to the success of its activities. Today, there are over 2,000 members and figures are steadily increasing.
