The Clementi region is situated in Singapore to its west and is sandwiched between Jurong and Dover.

Singapore is a small island country, which is situated in the south eastern part of the continent of Asia. It is actually a congregation of sixty three small islands. It is also called the Republic of Singapore. It is situated at tip of the Malayan peninsula. It is one of the most important commercial and economic hubs of the region.

The Clementi region is situated in Singapore to its west and is sandwiched between Jurong and Dover. The place got its name from the Governor of Straits Settlement called Sir Cecil Clementi Smith. The place is the capital of the West Coast Group Representative Constituencies, with its head office located in the Clement Avenue 3. The place is largely used as a residential area with more than fifty percent of it under the residential complexes, mainly managed by the Housing and Development Board.

In the past most of the town was under the occupancy of the “Colombo Board” and it is also home to the Singapore Guard Regiment. The Colombo Board camp was demolished by 1975 to make way for development. The development of the new town of Clementi started between 1975 and 1979. This planned and self sustaining area had various kinds of facilities along with services. The affected people of the region, due to the ongoing development were given resettlement.

The steel truss railway bridge which crosses Sungei Ulu Pandan is a landmark of Clementi. This line was built as part of the railways that brought goods from Malaysia, mainly raw materials. However the line was closed by the 1990s. The line still has its historic importance and attracts visitors.

The main road here the Clementi Road is about 5 km long and starts from near Bukit Timah of Jalan Anak Bukit and extends to the west Coast highway. The area is mainly dominated by the residential flats of the HDB, which are situated near the Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi MRT Station. The major portion of these buildings are Clementi New Town and is surrounded the by the Sunset Way Estate in the North, the Clementi Road in the East, West coast Highway in the South and Clementi Avenue 6 in the West.

It has its own shopping mall named “City Vibe” near the MRT Station and the West Coast Plaza mall mainly serves the people of West Coast Road. A part of Clementi has many take away food stores, which are quite popular among the students of the Singapore National University. Clementi also the Headquarters of the Singapore Police “D” Division, situated on the Clementi Avenue 5. In the year 2005 there has been a proposal to build a new Clementi town Centre, near the interchange site of the bus. The place has good educational institutes i.e. the primary and secondary schools and also colleges and universities and some of which are really old.

The Clementi town has its own MRT station and bus services that take people to different parts of the town. The place also has recreational complexes and its own stadium and sports hall. The place also has many places of worship for people of different religion, thus making Clementi an ideal Residential place.
