28:th of February The European Oyster Opening Championships 2017 are hosted by Nova Mat & Möten in corporation with Albert Kök- Hotell & Konferens and The City of Trollhättan. 24 competitors from 13 european nations compete to be the best in Europe. Defending champion, Michael Moran from Irland, is coming to NOVA Arena at Innovatum in Trollhättan to defend his title.

Our aim is to gather the elite of Europe's oyster openers in a top-class competition and to crown Europe's best oyster opener. To achieve this, the top two oyster openers from each countries national competition will be invited to EC.

For those countries where no national competition is held, earlier documented results or participation in the World Championship shall be the qualification to the European Oyster Opening Championships.The competition management has the right to give a Wild Card to a competitor who doesn't fulfill the above criterion.

The nations that have organized national competitions are Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, England, Ireland and Czech Republic. Other countries with traditions of the oyster opening are France, Germany, Wales, Northern Ireland, Estonia, Scotland and Holland. Belgium, Iceland, Spain, Switzerland and Italy have occasionally participated in an international context.

Invited and automatically qualified are those who position themselves as first and second in their respective national tournaments and reigning European and Nordic champion, wild card dealt to oyster opener with previous international credentials.
