“Bridging the divide between me & Europe, Europe & I”, the 10th National Session of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) Sweden, will be the final step of the national selection process, consisting of four Regional Sessions across the country and one National Session in Gothenburg. Altogether they will cover a combined period of 16 days and involve over 300 youths from 60 schools. During each session delegates will debate, trade ideas and exchange viewpoints with each other, national politicians and policy makers on a number of current European political issues.
“Bridging the divide between me & Europe, Europe & I” aims to raise awareness of European issues, while encouraging an active European citizenship, intercultural practices amongst young people, and a constructive dialogue between the youth of today and the policy makers who are building Europe for them. A dialogue between the participants of the session and these decision-makers puts these questions, and the influence of the youth, higher on the political agenda. The issues the delegates will be dealing will focus on an array of topics, such as the crisis and grave human rights violations in Syria, the authoritarian regime and controversial assertion of Putin’s Russia, as well as Germany’s position in the EU after their national elections. Other current affairs which will be discussed include unemployment, the environment, human rights and social inclusion. By creating a more efficient dialogue between these policy makers and youth, the fresh and innovative ideas of the youth can be made a reality, and it is the hope that this sense of being heard will encourage a continued involvement in the European society.
