Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Craiova, Romania 2.72

The Faculty of Social Sciences is a faculty of tradition at the University of Craiova, the first specializations of which were made more than 50 years ago.

In 1959, a three-year Pedagogical Institute was established in Craiova, where the Faculty of History and Geography, with a three-year tuition period, will function as an independent faculty since 1961.

According to the Council of Ministers Decision 894 of 27 August 1965, the University of Craiova will unite in one administrative structure the existing institutes.

Article II shows that the three-year Pedagogical Institute will function, starting with the academic year 1966-1967, within the University of Craiova, with two faculties: History-Geography and Natural Sciences.

Under the Presidential Decree of 1974, the former Faculty of History and Geography, lasting three years, passed as a department of History and Geography, four-year period of study, at the Faculty of Philology and History.

Starting with the academic year 1974-1975, according to the Decree of the State Council, published in the Official Bulletin of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Part I, no. 81 of 1974, the profile of the Faculty of Philology-History had the following structure: the Romanian section - a foreign language, the French section and the History-Geography section.

After 1990, as a result of the structural changes in the Romanian society, changes will also occur in education. Thus, within the University of Craiova, the Faculty of Letters and History and the Faculty of Natural Sciences will function as well among othe faculties.Within the Faculty of Letters and History, the Department of History-Foreign Language and Literature will be established and, starting 1997, the History section.

In the autumn of 1999, within the Faculty's Teaching Council, it was decided to split it into two new faculties: Faculty of Letters and Faculty of History, Philosophy and Geography.

As a result, on 4 November 1999, the Senate of the University of Craiova decided to request the approval of the Ministry of National Education for this reorganization.

On February 8, 2000 appeared in the Official Gazette, no. 58, Decision of the Romanian Government no. 85, regarding the establishment of new faculties within the University of Craiova. Thus, the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Geography were founded.

In 2008 the Council of the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Geography decided to change the name of the faculty in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

After several structural changes in the period 2012-2014, starting with the academic year 2015-2016, the Faculty of Social Sciences was re-established in its current structure.
