Details

Sukhi Development Foundation, popularly known as Sukhi, is a non-government and not-for-profit civil society organisation. With special emphasis on community participation and women’s empowerment, its primary attention is centred on poverty alleviation through social transformation and economic development in rural areas. After getting itself registered with the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir under Societies Act, 1860, the organisation formally became operational in January 2001.

What We Do?

Sukhi engages people for their own socio-economic development. Its activities range from providing disadvantaged communities with relief to offering them interest-free micro financing for sustainable livelihood and creating public awareness through social mobilisation. To serve this end, it empowers the poor step-by-step.

As a first step, a community-based organisation in targeted area is formed to identify problems, set priorities and facilitate the project’s execution, while at second step, potential beneficiaries undergo multiple skill enhancement trainings. Lastly, targeted communities are provided with means and opportunities to help them fully utilise their potential for sustainable livelihoods.

Areas of Work:

Sukhi works in infrastructure development, micro finance, women empowerment, environment, health care and hygiene, mother and child care, education, agriculture technologies and small hydropower generation.

Geographical Focus:

Sukhi’s geographical spread encompasses activities in all seven districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, specifically focusing on rural areas. We normally work in areas where we have a strong, dependable volunteer base to ensure a knowledgeable and efficient management of its local affairs. It plans expansion of its radius of multifarious activities to the Northern Areas of Pakistan.
