Rabab is an ancient Central Asian Instrument. It is a National Instrument of Afghanistan at present. It also played in Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iran and in Northern India. It is believed that the Rabab is an ancestor of modern Indian Sarod.

Rabab is a peculiarly shaped instrument. The body of a Rabab is carved mostly from one log of Mulberry (Toot) wood. The lower half portion of rabab where it is customarily carved covered with a goat skin. Upper part or neck is magnificently inlaid of sea shells. Three main strings go on top of the bridge tied with an endpin at the bottom and winded to the pegs in the pegbox on top of the neck. 9 or 12 sympathetic strings go underneath the main strings winded to the small pegs at the end and tied to the same end pin.
