Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development (AHKNCRD) was established as a Federal Training and Research Institution in the year 1979 and become operational in 1983, it was declared as an attached department of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in 1988. In recognition of invaluable services rendered by late Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan for the cause of community development, strengthening of civil society and socio-economic empowerment of the poor and marginalized people living in informal settlements in Pakistan, Government of Pakistan renamed NCRD as Ahktar Hameed Khan National Center for Rural Development and Municipal Administration (AHKNCRD&MA). On 16th May, 2013 NCRD become an attached department of Establishment Division.
