"FIRST FEMALE UNIVERSITY OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

Women played an important role in the foundations of many Islamic educational institutions, such as Fatima al-Fihri, founder of the University in the world “Al Karaouine” in 859. According to a hadith attributed to Muhammad (SAW), he praised the women of Medina because of their desire for religious knowledge.

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar is the First Public Sector Women University in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University is named in commemoration of the contributions made by the significant ladies of Pakistan who bestow their life for the cause of women emancipation and for the betterment of the country.

The first ever female university of the province was established in accordance with the Frontier Women University Act 2004, passed by the Provincial Assembly and assented by the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 7th February, 2005. However, according to the revised Act (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Act No. XI 2010), passed by the provincial assembly KPK on September 6, 2010, the University was renamed as Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU).The University is destined to be a leading public sector Women University to impart education to the female population of this region in order to develop scientific, socio cultural, economic and political stability, through learner centered teaching and research, while strengthening the identity of the students at national and international level.

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University has been functioning since 2005. The University provides an environment which enables students to develop their academic, moral, physical, professional and spiritual potential. Envisaged initially as a caterer to the education of female population of the Province, the University has earned much more than it had initially conceived.

SBBWU’s mission is to educate female population to think logically, work creatively, interact effectively and be technologically aware, to function as a responsible and responsive member of the society dedicated to academic excellence, to inculcate traditional , moral and ethical values amongst the students to respond to our socio-cultural needs, to provide a congenial environment that encourages faculty and staff for their intellectual and professional growth and to promote excellence that is recognized globally.

The primary objective of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar is to accomplish the assigned mission of providing quality education to the female students in accordance with the latest syllabi and modern trends so as to emerge as the leading public sector female university of the country.

Currently, the University is offering admissions in 19 disciplines in Bachelors and Masters Programs and other various Certificate / Diploma Programs with updated Curricula set by HEC which integrate knowledge with hands-on laboratory experience, with special emphasis on computer aided studies. Departmental programs are aimed at training students so as to become productive and contributing members of their professions and future leaders of the society, human resource industry and the academic world.

Presently, the University is running 4 campuses in Peshawar City:

1. Town Campuses

Theses campuses are in the University town of Peshawar where 5 disciplines are being taught BS Microbiology, Bio-Informatics , Bio-Chemistry, Urdu and BFA.

2. City Campus

The City campus is situated in the heart of the City where different certified courses, graduate and post graduate programs are running. The various discipline being taught at this campus are Women Development, BS – Physics, Bachelors in Education, Master is Education, Statistics, Mathematics, Islamiyat and English.

3. Main Campus

The Main campus of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University is situated at Charsadda Road, Larama where various under-graduate, graduate and post graduate programs are running; BBA, BS Computer Science, BS Economics, BS Psychology, Masters in Business Administration (with 3-1/2, 2-1/2 and 1-1/2 years programs), Masters in Public Administration, Economics, Psychology, Computer Science, Urdu, Political Science and LLB
