INTRODUCTION:

Since independence Pakistan faced many challenges and one of them was in the field of Engineering & technology. At that time a few industries existed in Pakistan.

It was felt by the government of Pakistan that engineering & technology knowledge is of vital importance for socio-economic development of country. To meet the growing demands of rapidly changing and technologically oriented world, the government of Pakistan was determined to train its Manpower technically. The government in 1954, invited Ford Foundation of America to make study of the technical & industrial needs. The report showed that there was an acute shortage of technical personal in the country.

The government took immediate action in the light of the report submitted by the American Consultants and established three "POLYTECHNIC" institutes in Karachi, Dhaka, and Rawalpindi. The qualified Associate Engineers from polytechnics were meant to assist the engineers in industry / field and also to bridge the gap between engineers and skilled workers. Now there are numerous technical institutes in the country imparting technical education to train the Manpower.

Govt. College of Technology, Abbottabad is also a technical institute providing education at Diploma/ Graduate level, in the province and working under the Directorate General of Technical Education and Manpower Training, under industries Dept: Govt. of KPK.

Started in 1987 as a Govt. Polytechnic institute and has been upgraded as a Govt, College of technology since 2005, running diploma and Bachelor level courses in different fields of Engineering & technology (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, DAE) and B-Tech: (Mechanical) Degree respectively. .

The college is situated on Mansehra Road, nearly five kilometers from Abbottabad. It has a land of 10 acres approximately having large beautiful buildings.It consists of large classrooms, workshops / labs, Computer labs, etc, in order to cope up with growing needs of the age. The college has its own mosque, housing colony and hostel for students having a capacity to accommodate 80-students.

To enhance the global competitiveness in Pakistan through a quality and productive workforce by developing and demand driven, standardized and dynamic technical education system.
