Edopia is a community. It is not a preparation for the real world. It is the real world. A place where laughter, choice, passion, conflict and failure is real. The school takes a futuristic, holistic and child-driven approach to learning.

Edopia was established in 2014, as the first alternate, progressive and democratic school of Pakistan. The school is the brainchild of Jaweria Sethi, a LUMS Alumna. While still at her university, Jaweria noticed the need for an education system that would empower children to become independent learners.

Despite going to one of the best schools in the city and doing well academically all her life, she felt unfulfilled. She felt that the years she spent in school could have been better organized. The traditional systems of education do not encourage thinking and self-reflection. They are anarchic and inadequate. Jaweria felt that a school should not only be an academic space, but also a social, emotional and personal one. It should be a place where a child’s pursuit of happiness and purpose begins. A place which does not produce ‘better adults’, rather places value on childhood. Where every child is viewed as an empowered entity. A school should nurture and mentor children to take better decisions in life. Hence, she came up with Edopia.

Since its commencement, it has been training its lead team in courses designed by Harvard University Graduate School of Education. It is the home to more than seventy-five families across eight nationalities, providing its community members with a diverse and multi-ethnic environment in the heart of Islamabad.
