Hunza is situated in the North of Gilgit on a distance of 120 km along
Karakorum highway. The people of Hunza known as Hunzukuts.
Hunza with the population of 40000 has been ruled by the same family and they
are said to be the descendants of the troops of Alexander of Macedonia.
Hunza valley is surrounded by huge mountains stretched over 110 kilometers.
The land mark of Hunza is the Rakaposhi Peak (7788M) which glitters like a diamond against the blue sky. Apart from the above there are also four more worth seeing peaks, that is Ultar Peak (7388M),
Golden Peak (7216M), Batura Peak (7785M) and Princess Bubli Peak. Batura Trek,
Patundas Trek, Shimshal Valley Trek, Rushphari Trek are some of the main
attractions of the Hunza region. Eternal snow, lush green orchards, fast moving
rivers and the Emerald green meadows which have made Hunza famous among
tourists. This is the land of peace, tranquility, fruits and legendary tales. The society
is very united and each family grows enough wheat, maize, apricots and walnuts
for its own use. The people are cheerful and friendly. The women wear bright clothes,
long shirts over baggy trousers and little embroidered pillbox hats. They do not
cover their faces. The myth which claims that Hunza people live longer than anyone,
being free from social stress and living on a low-fat diet is rightly true as your see
old people in good health few if any live to the old age of 120.
