Balochistan Levies Force 2.75

The Levy is a community police force, which is raised from local communities and functions within the parameters of local customs and traditions. The Levies Force is meant to Police rural areas titled as “B” areas. This force initially operated under the provision of the Frontier Crimes Regulation 1901. The FCR was replaced by the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance II of 1968 under which the Levies Force had to perform the functions of Police with respect to arrest and detention of offenders, under the supervision of Tehsildars and Assistant Commissioner and over all control of Deputy Commissioner/ Political Agent. Officers who register and investigate criminal cases and submit the challans in the relevant courts of law. The organization of the Levies gives it a broad based representation of different tribes and sub tribes. Therefore, its strength is the community which assists it in the prevention and detection of crime. The force has justified its existence by its satisfactory performance even though it is behest by severe shortage of resources.

(ii) TYPES OF LEVIES
There are two types of Levies Force in the Province i.e. the Federal Levies Force and the Provincial Levies. The Federal Levies Force was raised in the Province in the pre partition period for law and order and other watch and ward duties
