Wordlab began as a facility that provided help for children with reading difficulties. This reading clinic operated in a small room within a commercial area in Makati in 1986. Wordlab worked for many years as an after-school program until the need for a full school program became necessary to address the needs of learners with dyslexia.
In 1995, Mailin Paterno, Dina Ocampo, Rachel Red Amparo, and Rosario Felicia Z. Colet founded Wordlab School, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit institution. It opened its doors to 9 learning disabled students in a multi-grade class in June of that year. The following year, Wordlab opened its complete elementary school program, and has since provided differentiated education to its students.
