Otakufest 5.16

The Otakufest is one of the largest and the most anticipated annual hobbies convention in Cebu.

Created in 2007 by BAGSIK, then the third year batch organization of UP Cebu as a fundraiser for the organization’s activities, UP Otakufest humbly began as a passion project, created by geeks, for the geeks.

The idea was to hold a convention with as much variety and fan-driven entertainment as possible, that was not limited to a certain genre and is open to all fandoms. UP Otakufest ultimately played a significant role in promoting the cosplay and hobbies culture to the Cebuano community and created a great wave that paved the way for more cosplay and hobbies conventions in Cebu. Through the years, it has showcased an array of attractions including, but not limited to online gaming competitions, digital photography, character design, performances, cosplay, as well as free movie viewing, various exhibits and more.

The first Otakufest gathered a crowd of several hundred fans from all walks of life to celebrate and exhibit the fandoms they cherish the most. OF is not just limited to Japanese culture, anime, or cosplay; its door is open to all fandoms and hobbies.

The Otakufest community has grown steadily through the years as it became one of the most anticipated and attended hobbies conventions in Cebu. Held every February, it serves as Cebu’s opening salvo for all similar events.
