Taylan Elementary School is a child-eco friendly educational institution demonstrates the authority of crafting the lives of young minds through relevant need-based curriculum and high level of instruction to meet challenging academic standard and access community resources for learning. It also provides quality education that will be equipped with basic lifelong learning skills and competencies, responsive attitudes towards the needs of the fast changing society under the guidance of committed and dedicated teachers.
The school offers 2 Curriculum the K- 12 and Basic Education. The programs are facilitated by 7 dedicated and committed teachers. And 6 of them are regular permanent teachers and 1 volunteer teacher handling Pre- Elementary. All of these personnel are manned under the transformational school head .
The school was founded in 1948 right after the Second World War II under the instruction of American teacher. It was a primary school and a combination class. A makeshift classroom was the first classroom of young educators who quest for learning. And it became a complete elementary school by the year 1957 up to the present. The school has two Bagong Lipunan Buildings housed by Grades-I, II, III, IV, VI, one Marcos type building utilized the School Head Office, Home Economics, PTA and SPG Office. The TEEP building is occupied by Grade-V learners. The school stage utilized as learning place of kid’s learners due to lack of school building. This School Year 2014-2015 the teaching force on its shop carving 147 learners to be competent in demand to the global market.
The name of school derived from the surname of the land donor Pascual Taylan. It has a land area of 894,212 square meters. The school is rough terrain; however through the cooperation of the stakeholders the school ground was bulldozed to have a place for the learners to play and enjoy the game. Hence, a portion of school ground is somewhat flat.
The school is one of the mono grade public school in Matalom South District located in Barangay Pres. Garcia, Matalom, Leyte. It is approximately 7 kilometres from Matalom town. It is connected by a two class province road consisting of four kilometres and is connected by three kilometres from the market. It is accessible by automobile, jeepney, motorcycle, and other means of transportation. It is now on its 66th year of operation. It absorbs 97 % of the elementary learners’ population of the catchment areas, serving 7 Sitios namely: Kinudsan, Hinas, Binukbukan, Proper, Lower, Kantongkayas and Nag-as.
The school receive regular MOOE and is benefited with the SEF given annually by the LGU with the amount that varies annually. This is used to improve the physical facilities of the school, seminars and travels as well as the instructional materials of the teachers and learners. The school provides materials for classroom instruction once or twice a year from the school MOOE budget. The parents also contributed a minimal amount on voluntary basis just to provide the necessary materials and equipment’s needed in the classroom as well as to support the different active organization of the school.
The school always answers the call of the division office on the different programs and project of the Department of Education such as the Brigada Eskwela, Eco-friendly schools and it is anchored through the help of the active teachers, and stakeholders who are always willing to help the school an avenue for individual’s learning. With the collaboration and continuous support of the stakeholders that manifest a strong partnership with the Taylan Elementary School teachers to implement DepEd programs and projects, the school will be able to achieve the National DepEd Vision and Mission and Goal.
This School Improvement Plan is crafted thru the collaboration of the internal and external stakeholders of the school by identifying gaps to improve and find ways to move the school from where it is now to a condition in which learners can achieve their highest potential. This will help also the school head and teachers to analyse the needs and how the school and the community stakeholders can address these needs and spin around the 3 key outcomes that we need to achieve in order to realize our vision, mission and core values thru ACCESS, QUALITY and GOVERNANCE.
