Committed to Provide Quality Health Care Service."">HISTORY OF ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA FOUNDATION & MEDICAL CENTER

On July 12, 1987, a small lying-in clinic founded by Dr. Corsino Torno started it all. The clinic was strategically located between Angeles City and Porac, although most of his patients were from the nearby villages of the latter. Because of this, Dr. Torno named his clinic after the Patron Saint of Porac, St. Catherine of Alexandria, hence it was known as ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA MEDICAL CLINIC. The clinic flourished in the succeeding years since it opened.

Considering what has been attained and with the increasing number of patients annually, after three years, Dr. Torno together with his wife, Dra. Carmelita A. Torno, relocated the clinic to a much better and bigger area. On October 13, 1994, the clinic was transformed to a non-stock, non-profit organization permitted and classified as a primary hospital. The hospital was now named ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA MATERNITY & CHILD CARE CLINIC. The decision for naming the clinic as such is the couple’s professions which are related to the new name, Dr. Torno is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist and his wife is a Pediatrician.

Realizing the importance of continuous development and improvement, the founders’ dream of making the institution more responsive to the needs of the community lead them to further growth and expansion. On December 18, 1999, the institution was upgraded to secondary hospital status and revised its name to ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA GENERAL HOSPITAL, INC. The hospital now caters to a wider range of clients through the inclusion of services such as surgical and internal medicine, just to name a few.

Every hospital's history holds milestones that shape its growth and development for years to come. In August 29, 2001, the Administration decided to change the hospital’s name again to ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA FOUNDATION & MEDICAL CENTER, INC. The change in name was a sign of greater things to come for the hospital because after a few months, it was certified as a tertiary level hospital by the Department of Health (DOH). This can be attributed to the improved quality of healthcare services provided to patients and the enhanced availability of clinical services at lower costs but with a high level of efficiency to an expanding population.

Presently, ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA FOUNDATION & MEDICAL CENTER is still a tertiary level hospital with an authorized bed capacity of 40 beds and an actual/implementing bed capacity of 62 beds. It was also departmentalized, from Administrative to Medical Department, enabling it to offer a wide range of services and facilities for its patients.
