"URGENT CALL TO SAVE MT. ARAYAT! Right now Mt. Arayat is in poor condition primarily because of the constant and uncontrolled logging, charcoal production which led to recent land slides, erosion, which then led to the destruction of the park and communities around the vicinity of the mountain. The Park itself is now an evacuation center for the relocated victims of the recent land slides, erosion and flooding.I've seen boulders as big as cars and houses that rolled down from the mountain and the mud and soil with different kinds of debris that engulfed the communities on the foothill of the mountain. I just visited it this morning I feel sad of what it has come to be. If the logging will not stop there is no doubt that there will be a big landslide and total destruction not only on the vicinity but also on the nearby communities.
I don't need to become an environmental engineer to know the grim future that lies ahead of our town. The boulders, landslides, mudslides, erosions and flooding that I have seen are enough for me to arrive at a conclusion that Mt. Arayat is another St. Bernard disaster soon to happen. I wish that we will look and act into this before it is too late. I grew up in Lacquios, Arayat at the foothill of the mountain and I have seen the drastic changes in the mountain and the signs that a disaster is soon to happen. I WOULD LIKE TO URGE YOUR GOOD OFFICE TO SEND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERS THAT WILL ASSESS THE SITUATION and make recommendations on how to avert the disaster if not minimize the effects of it. We need evacuation and contingency plans for the worst case scenario at this moment. I also wish to have strong ordinance/law against logging, kaingin and other destructive activities before we lose everything. In fact the Mt. Arayat should be a Forest Reserve, any form of logging or acts that will damage it should be banned totally.
Save Mt. Arayat and the Town of Arayat.
I didn't see much of a progress with the rehabilitation of Mt. Arayat. Logging and Kaingin is till rampant. In fact this morning I've seen patches of smoky areas scattered in the mountain, clear indication of Kaingin and Charcoal production.A few months ago I visited the foothills right a after a typhoon and I have seen mudslides, boulders, and debris everywhere and worst flooding ever.No progress at all.
I hope this will not got through too much politics and just act on it."
