SAN ROQUE PARISH PROFILE

San Roque Parish belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila, Philippines. The parish church is located in Barangka Ilaya, Mandaluyong City. The parish was canonically erected in 1971 by His Eminence Cardinal Rufino Santos. The titular of the parish is San Roque , the patron saint in times of sickness and famine. It has five (5) sub parishes, namely San Roque East, San Roque West, San Roque North, St. Jude and San Antonio within the four (4) barangays – Barangka Ilaya, Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Itaas, and Barangay Malamig.

The incumbent parish priest is Rev. Fr. Andy Ortega Lim. With him is the enabling pastoral council who helps in the different ministries and functions. Fr. Andy is assisted by guest priests in administering the sacraments and spiritual needs of the parishioners.

Nine (9) masses are held in the parish church every Sunday. Included in the schedule of Sunday are the 9:45 a.m. regular mass attended also by Persons With Different Abilities with sign language interpreters for the deaf; infant baptism at 11:00 a.m. and the children’s mass at 3:30 p.m. Four Sunday masses are also celebrated in two chapels. Churchgoers are welcome to attend worship gatherings and devotional novenas. A fitness program every Saturday 7:00 a.m. is offerred to parishioners at the fourth floor.

According to study and surveys, majority of the parishioners are living below poverty line. It is therefore understandable that the parish gives priority to social action ministry that primarily aims to concretize the concern of the Church for the poor and underprivileged. Inspired by the example of the patron saint, free medical and dental clinic are held for the sick brethren. The parish has a scholarship program for the poor but deserving students. Tuition fees assistance and monthly allowance are extended to them. In order to strengthen the formative aspect of the scholarship, religious communities of sisters are implementing the guidance program not only for the pupils but also for the parents. Thus, parents participate in the process of moulding the Christian values of the scholars. It is in this manner that the Church, the school and the home jointly participate in the formation of the youth.

In matters of temporalities, the completion of the Parish Church and facade has been done.

Underneath the parish church is the Sacred Heart Chapel where masses are held for interment of cremated remains beside Santuario Delos Santos (ossuary). At another side is a mortuary for deceased parishioners and non-parishioners.

The new Multipurpose Center was erected in the parking lot adjacent to the church housing the Medical/Dental Clinics and the Consumer Cooperative Store. Visible at another side is the replica of San Roque seemingly inviting parishioners to come and enjoy his moment with God in the eye-catching new Adoration Chapel, open 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Nearby is the Marker of the Unborn.

A dream realized, the future generation will inherit a beautiful structure to praise and worship the Almighty thru the intercession of San Roque.
