In a prime vacant lot located at the heart of the Modomo’s Subdivision in Padapada, Sta Ignacia, Tarlac, there exists an area suitable for the establishment of a homeowner’s park. On April 25, 1996, the Narang-ay Development Association headed by its Chairman Ponciano R. Aquino went to see Mr. Eddie Modomo, the owner of the subdivision, purposely to introduce the Association that later sought to be recognized. They presented their plans to beautify the park, to install its perimeter fence, to develop the existing day care center, to improve the basketball court and most importantly, to heed the need to construct a chapel.

Financial solicitations from friends and relatives here and abroad were undertaken for the initial construction of the chapel. Rev. Fr. Hector Pamintuan named the chapel after an incredible Doctor of the Church, St. John of the Cross. Through the guidance of Rev. Frs. Hector Pamintuan and Polly Pardiñan, masses then were being celebrated once a month. Until in 2006 Monsignor Alan Talavera initiated to schedule regular mass every Sunday.

The difficult task of Monsignor Alan Talavera to study the potentials and possibilities of converting the chapel into a full grown parish had tremendously touched the heart of every parishioner longing for deeper spiritual nourishment. He presented and recommended the case to His Excellency Bishop Florentino Cinense for its approval. The efforts were complimented when the kind-hearted Modomo family donated the lot to the Catholic Church. Not so long after on October 30, 2009, Rev. Fr. Robert B. David was installed as the first Parish Priest of St. John of the Cross Parish.

The Parish, as it brings together in faith the 12 barangays from the towns of Santa Ignacia, Gerona, and Tarlac City, continues the journey of its humble beginnings up to this time where the parishioners and the benevolent people of God persist to show their love and support in all the activities of the church.
