PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group traces its roots when the Cybercrime Section (CCS) under the Anti-Transnational Crime and Cybercrime Division (ATCCD) of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was formed in 2003 to address Cyber threats, investigation of cybercrimes and other cyber-related offenses.

CCS had very modest and unique beginning and started operations without the following: computers, computer forensic equipment, trained cyber investigator, digital forensic examiner and cyber forensic laboratory.

As a response of the national government, Government Computer Security and Incident Response Team underthe office of the President's Task Force for the Security of Critical Infrastructure (TFSCI) was launched on August 5, 2004 as the focal point for reporting security related incidents from terrorists acts with the use of computers.

A Cyber Training Laboratory was also established on December 9, 2011 to cater the technical training needs of the PNP Personnel. This Training Laboratory was developed and established through the assistance of US Department of State Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program (ATAP).

Finally, on March 20 2013, Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) was officially activated through NAPOLCOM Resolution Number 2013-220 and PNP GO DPL-12-09 dated February 27, 2013 to address the growing threats of cybercrimes and cyber-enabled criminality. The establishment of the PNP-Anti-CyberCrime Group is a strong signal to criminals that the PNP is ver serious in addressing cybercrimes in the country.
