History of PNHS
Pinagkawitan Barrio High School was founded on the year 1970 - 1971. The school started with only 68 students with a single teacher who was teaching all the subject area - English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Filipino, Physical Education and YCAP. Mr. Mernilo Mayo was the first mentor on the high school. The budget of Pinagkawitan Barrio School which was used for governing the school was given by the Barrio Council, thus, students were owed to pay tuition fees. The classroom that the students used was the Marcos Type Building of Pinagkawitan Elementary School.

As the years passed by, the number of students decreased due to poverty. On its fourth year, there were only 13 students who graduated and that was the First Commencement Exercise held in this institution. On the other hand, every year the number of teachers of the school increased by one. In 1974, there were four teachers namely Ms. Angelina S. Cornejo; Ms. Loreta L. Lojo; Ms Corazon A Manguiat and Ms. Gloria Arano.

In 1980, Pinagkawitan Barrio High School became Pinagkawitan Barangay High School because 30% of the school's budget given by the City Government was used for the teachers' salary. Then time came that Pinagkawitan Barangay High School was converted into Pinagkawitan National High School because 100% of the budget of the school was supported by the National Government. Students do not have to pay tuition fees.

In 1998, through the persevering effort of the Brgy. Captain Rogelio M. Maldonado and initiative of School Head, Mrs. Corazon M. Mosca, the Sangguniang Panglunsod agreed and authorized Honorable City Mayor Vilma Santos Recto to purchase one thousand five hundred forty (1,540) square meters land for Pinagkawitan National High School in the amount of one million Pesos (P1,000,000) taken from the Special Educational Fund (SEF).
