Golden Brown Specialties (GBS) first introduced its specialty, the “lechon manok” (roasted chicken), to Davao City when it was launched on November 18, 1985. GBS pioneered and perfected roasting chicken to a delectable golden brown in color, thus the name.

GBS started as a take-out counter along Duterte Street with a staff of four, which included the owners, Lena and Rommel Benedicto. It sold sixty (60) roasted chickens on the first business hour. As the first business venture of the owners, they knew the product was going to be a “hit”. Soon after, more customers were queueing for the GBS “lechon manok”.

A year after, GBS expanded its take-out counter to a full service restaurant. An all-Pinoy menu was created listing Filipino favorites -- Lechon Liempo, Crispy Pata, Kare-kare, Pancit Canton, Barbecued Chicken, and more. Consistent food taste coupled with excellent service was GBS’ key to its success. This led to more plans in expanding.

This was the same year GBS launched the Patok Sa Manok brand and opened its first take-away roasting counter. Today, Patok Sa Manok has ten branches around Davao City, three take-out counters and seven branches with full-service restaurants.

In 1995, GBS expanded its service and launched its delivery service serving both the corporate and residential sectors. Filling the high demand of the growing market, GBS eventually expanded to full catering service. GBS took its servicing to the next step and incorporated function rooms in the restaurant design of the Patok Sa Manok branch in Lanang.

Next year, 2013, GBS will be opening its first Patok Sa Manok branch in Luzon. This will be the concept store for GBS’ business plan-- franchising.

Golden Brown Specialties and Patok Sa Manok’s dedication to serving quality food at affordable prices have made the company and the brand household names in Davao City.

The list of clients may have grown, and GBS has kept its loyal patrons on it. Patrons who have seen the company grow from a humble take-out counter to the chain of restaurants it is today.
