The case of the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice is one that is truly interesting. It is a church that stands on government property leased by a secular university. Such a beautiful house of worship built in a notoriously “godless” university could only be the fruit of so great and so animated a Faith. Such was the faith of UP’s Catholic community.

In 1949, through the initiative of Fr. John P. Delaney of the Society of Jesus, the Chapel of the Holy Sacrifice was built. It was elevated to a parish in 1977, given the presence of residential communities, besides the academic community the Chaplaincy used to serve.

The chaplaincy’s conversion to a parish happened precisely because the community grew. It is difficult not to attribute this growth to the relationship which the academic community and the residential communities must have had.

Today, the Parish continues to respond to the call of New Evangelization as it makes itself present in all forms of media, particularly social media, to reach out to its lay faithful/parishioners.
