History of Mina National High School

Mina National High School then Mina Barrio High School was created on July 11, 1966.Through the efforts of Dr.Pedro Orata, Mina Barrio High School was created so that parents in rural areas could educate their children without spending too much sending their children to study in the city or in neighboring towns.
Mina Barrio High School became a reality through Mrs. Adoracion Sobrejuanite, Mina Elementary School principal and Mr. Elias Pasaporte, faculty member. Initially it had four teachers-Miss Salvacion Abordo, Mrs. Herminia Amparo Alfeche, Mr.Roque Buyco and Mr. Elias Pasaporte. There were two sections occupying the Gabaldon Bldg. in the campus of Mina Central School.
A Presidential Decree in 1972 was issued to rename the barrio high school to Mina Barangay High School, then in 1974, to Mina Municipal High School. At that time, the school was still squatting on the Mina Central School campus.
The first principal in-charge was Mrs. Adoracion Sobrejuanite followed by Mr.Restituto Palisada. The first full time principal was Trinidad Serantes, when the school became the Municipal High School followed by Mrs. Cornelia Teruel. It was during the term of Mrs. Serantes when additional classrooms were created through the help of Mayor Luis Parayray, Municipal Officials and PTA Officers directly asking assistance from the President’s office to use part of the plaza as a school site.
Later more classrooms were added to accommodate the rapid increase of student population. The conversion of Mina Municipal School to Mina National High School processed under the administration of Mrs. Trinidad Serantes and Cornelia Teruel was realized in June 10, 1983,when the application was approved .At that time the new principal was Mr.Teodoro S. More rooms and buildings were constructed under Mr. Adarle’s energetic leadership with the support and cooperation of the teachers, municipal officials and employees and of the people of Mina and Cong. Narciso Monfort.
Because the school was already nationalized, twelve teacher positions, two department heads ,cashier, bookkeeper, supply officer and security guard have been filled for the school to function effectively.
After the retirement of Mr. Adarle, Mrs. Lorie Caspillo filled the position and served Mina National High School for three years and was succeeded by Miss Remedios Alegario. The school became one of the Most Effective School in the Third District, making it to the Hall of Fame.
It was on June 2008 when MNHS was transferred to its new site, Barangay Bangac- Talibong Grande. The construction started on June 8, 2007. It was considered as one of the priority projects of Hon. Mayor Rey P. Grabato for the school’s total development.
The new site was situated on a five hectare lot purchased by the municipality. It is one of the sub Projects of LOGOFIND (Local Government Finance and Development) worth 36,435,000.00.The new campus consists of six classroom buildings and seven classroom buildings, each with comfort rooms with Home Economics room, Computer room, Library and Science laboratory.
