Lucban CS SPED Center 2.83

The Special Education (SPED) program in Lucban District begun way back in 1970’s. The first SPED class in the district was for the Mentally Retarded (MR), the teacher was Ms. Nora Tagulinao. It was followed followed by the SPED class for the Visually Impaired (VI) in 1971 under Mr. Cesar O. Ingracia. SPED class for Hearing Impaired (HI) comes next in 1973 under Ms. Emma Obleada. The last SPED class that was organized was for the Fast Learners (FL) in 1975. All the teachers in each SPED program during those year were scholars in their chosen field.
To continue the SPED program in the district, that was 1996 two teachers were sent to be scholars and later handled the SPED classes for MR and HI Mrs. Celerina Montiero Abaricia took charge of the MR class while Mrs. Maria Carla Mabulay Caraan for the HI. The classes were placed at the Paaralang Elementarya ng Lucban-7 (PEL-7). During that time they were able to ask assistance from the Banahaw Blues Club. At present the two teachers were already shool heads.
On the other hand, in accordance with the DECS Order No. 108.s.1999, Strengthening of Special Education Programs for the Public School System and the Division Memorandum No. 69, s 1999 “Organization of Special Education classes for the Gifted/Fast Learners”, The Lucban District SPED class for FL grades I – VI was organized during the SY 2000 – 2001 in Paaralaang Elementarya ng Lucban – 1 (PEL-1). Here were FL teachers and the grade level they handled: Mrs. Flordeliza Buno – Grade 1, Mrs. Loreto Faller – Grade 2, Mrs. Adelfa Nano – Grade III, Mrs. Liza Cupino – Grade IV, Mrs. Adelia Pangilinan – Grade V, Ms. Margarita Sales – Grade VI. All of them were Master Taechers and had several trainings in this field.
The SPED class was transferred at Paaralang Elementarya ng Lucban – 1. When the two teachers were already school head (Mrs. Caraan and Mrs. Abaricia) they were replaced by Ms. Judy Ana Macaraan – SPED Teacher in MR class and Mrs. Rosalie Abcede – SPED Teacher in HI. When Ms. Macaraan resigned in SPED and Mrs. Abcede promoted as Head Teacher in Paaralang Elementarya ng Nagsinamo, that was in the school year 2008. Mrs. Emelyn A. Flores handled the SPED class. She took charge of the three classes (MR, HI, and VI). But it was for the short period Mrs. Clarissa A. Terando comes next that was 2009 when she handled the HI, ID. So, Mrs. Flores concentrated on her VI pupils. For the first time, it was on August 2010 a Japanese Volunteer Ms. Hiromi Ito came, She assisted the SPED class of Mrs. Terando’s pupil and taught new skills for children with special needs. Later on another teacher came, that was SY 2010 Mrs. Maria Roselle P. Abaricia took charge of the ID class while Mrs. Terando Taught the HI, OH and CWA. In Fast Learner class the advisers at present are: Mrs. Flordeliza T. Buno – Grade 1, Mrs. Lorelie Aňoso – Grade 2, Mrs. Clarissa Nacion – Grade 3, and still Mrs. Liza Cupino – Grade 4, Mrs. Adelfa Nano – Grade 5, and Ms. Margarita Sales – Grade 6. At present, our school as one of the SPED Center in the Division of Quezon continue handling and cater SPED classes with different exceptionality.
