Joan’s Pharmacy began in 1962 as a small drugstore, under the mother company, Zamboanga JA Trading Corporation. It was launched by Jose Chiong with a staff of only two and a capital of Php10,000.00, using his and wife Anita’s names for the store to symbolize their combined vision of a dependable leader in offering low-priced medicines to the typical Zamboangueño. Later on, they started increasing their business operations to medium-sized groceries.

Now, it has expanded its pharmacies into 11 branches around Zamboanga City:
1. Main branch (located along Governor Lim Avenue, Corner Barcelona Street)
2. Viva branch (located in Mayor Jaldon Street)
3. ZAEC branch (located at ZAEC building, Climaco Avenue)
4. Mindpro branch (located at La Purisima Street, inside Mindpro Citimall, 1st floor)
5. Gateway branch (located along Governor Lim Avenue, inside Shopper’s Center Gateway)
6. Budgetwise Branch (located at Veterans Avenue Corner, Campaner Extension)
7. Nunez Branch (located along Nunez highway extension)
8. Veterans Branch (located across Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital, Veterans Ave. Extension, Tumaga)
9. WMMC Branch (located beside WMMC hospital, Veterans Avenue Extension)
10. Guiwan Branch (located along Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat Highway, Guiwan)
11. Gusu Branch (located at San Jose, Gusu)

For 50 years, Joan's has been creating a transforming difference to hundreds of small scale to medium scale drugstores across Mindanao, wholesaling and retailing diverse types of products. Being recognized as the exclusive distributor of Johnson & Johnson, Silka, Sisters, Tentay, and Wyeth products in different parts of Mindanao, mainly Zamboanga City; the corporation has commenced with business enterprises in this territory, including outbound sales and distributions to areas such as Basilan, Bongao, Cebu, Davao, Jolo, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Sibugay, Tawi-tawi, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and even as far as Malaysia.
